Kids Profiles & Parental Controls on Smart TVs (Ireland)

Last updated: 18 September 2025 GMT

This guide shows how to set up kids profiles and parental controls on popular TV systems used in Ireland. Steps may vary slightly by model and software version.

Before you start (applies to all TVs)

  • Create a PIN you won’t forget (avoid “0000/1234”).
  • Update the TV OS and the streaming apps first.
  • Use the Irish app store/region for ratings consistency.

Apple TV (tvOS)

  1. Open SettingsUsers & AccountsAdd New User → create a child user.
  2. Go to SettingsGeneralRestrictionsEnable Restrictions (set a PIN).
  3. Under Allowed Content, set Movies/TV age ratings, Apps, Purchases, and Screen Recording as needed.
  4. In SettingsApps, disable in-app purchases if you prefer.

Amazon Fire TV

  1. Open SettingsPreferencesParental Controls → turn ON and set a PIN.
  2. Lock Purchases and set Viewing Restrictions by age rating; require PIN for app launches if desired.
  3. (Optional) Create a Child Profile under Profiles & Family.

Samsung Tizen (Smart TV)

  1. Press Settings (gear) → General & Privacy (or All Settings) → Parental Controls.
  2. Set or change the PIN → lock Apps by rating and restrict Channel/Source if needed.
  3. In Apps, use the Irish store; avoid region tweaks that breach Terms.

LG webOS

  1. Open SettingsSafety (or All Settings → Safety) → set a PIN.
  2. Enable Application Locks and choose rating limits; lock External Inputs if desired.
  3. Confirm the Store Region: Ireland for correct age ratings.

Extra safety tips (Ireland)

  • Profiles per child: separate watch histories keep recommendations age-appropriate.
  • Router features: some home routers let you pause internet or set schedules per device.
  • PIN hygiene: change the default TV PIN; keep it different from the phone/unlock code.

Common issues

My child can still open adult apps

Recheck the rating lock and app lock lists. Some TVs need a restart after enabling restrictions.

Purchases still go through

Ensure purchase PIN is enabled both at the TV OS level and inside individual apps that offer purchases.

Wrong content ratings

Verify the TV/app store is set to Ireland and update the app. Ratings depend on region.
